Lab Safety

  1. Electricity can cause serious harm or death, horseplay is NOT ALLOWED.
  2. If you are unsure of what you are doing, ask your instructor for help.
  3. Note the location of the fire extinguisher.
  4. DO NOT work on wet floors.
  5. TURN OFF the power to your equipment while building your circuit and while you are tearing it down.
  6. TURN OFF the power to your equipment when you are finished.
  7. Be sure to pay attention to the polarity of polarized capacitors.
  8. Components can be HOT while in use, use caution when handling them.
  9. If your equipment is defective, report it IMMEDIATELY to your instructor.
  10. Observe ESD safety precautions.
  11. If you are injured, report it IMMEDIATELY to your instructor.
  12. If a component burns, do not breathe the fumes. Integrated circuits can contain materials that produce poisonous fumes.
  13. Observe the "One hand in the pocket" rule, when working on energized circuits.
  14. Absolutely NO soda or snacks in the laboratory work area.
