What hardware will I need for my Online class?

Certain classes may require a PC or Macintosh computer with a modern processor (less than 3 years old). Faster is preferred.

56kbps modem at a minimum. Media-rich content in online courses is better viewed on faster Cable or DSL type connections.

Some courses may require a CD-Rom drive and/or a diskette drive for your computer.

How does testing work in Distance Learning courses?

Some courses will do all testing online while others may require you to come to a testing center to take tests. Accommodations will be made for students who don't live in the Gateway Technical College district.

What do I need to know to take an online class?

In general, you need to feel comfortable using e-mail and the Internet. Some basics include searching the Internet, attaching files to e-mail messages, navigating websites, and most importantly—having the time available to do the required work.
